The Internet is about sharing information. Unfortunately, some of the information is of dubious quality and origin. And most unfortunately, sometimes the information shared is about you and what should be your own private health concerns.
Below are a number of medical links we think you will find useful. We prefer .orgs and .govs to .coms. Before you jump into cyberspace, please keep a few important warnings in mind:
- Many online health services exist to make money. Their advertisers pay them so that you will spend your money on their product or service. Many web sites exist to sell you something, almost certainly something you don't need.
- Some online health sites sell information about who their visitors are to other companies, who then try to sell you something.
- Medical information continuously evolves. Is the information reliable? Is the author identified? Where does that person work? When was the information posted, and has it been updated?
- Raw bits of good information can be dangerous, too. There is no one like your family doctor to help you put that information into the big picture, and help you decide on the best approach to your health.
